ASCII files
In: Import
Files used for the import through the File Recognition dialogue should be written in a simple ASCII files. The more complex multi-byte character sets as Unicode, UTF-8 or other would require more programmer effort than I want to give.
If, after the selection of the imported file, nothing happens for a long time or the window above in the File Recognition dialogue is full of senseless characters with no connection to letters and numbers (as black rectangles, etc.), it is very probable that you encountered a record utilizing the multi-byte character set. In order to get from it something readable by PragTic, read the file e.g. to the PSPad (freeware available in the http://www.pspad.com) and change the character set there e.g. to some Windows- or ISO-based set.
The same solution can work for file created within the UNIX system. The specific end of line there is not correctly recognized in PragTic. You can change the type of the coding to the DOS - PSPad is again handy here.
